Job Summary

West Virginia Northern Community College is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Facilities Director to oversee the physical plant operations and maintenance of its three campuses. The successful candidate will be responsible for supervising staff, managing facility needs, and ensuring compliance with regulatory obligations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Facility Management: Direct the acquisition of needed materials and services, plan, organize, and direct the activities of the Physical Plant Operations and Maintenance, and prioritize, assign, and follow-up on job assignments for maintenance, janitorial, and third-party contractors.
  • Problem-Solving and Technical Decision-Making: Assist department personnel in problem-solving and technical decision-making as needed on all assignments.
  • Contracted Maintenance and Repair Services: Coordinate and order contracted maintenance and repair services as needed.
  • Facility Expenses and Payment: Validate facility expenses and prepare for payment.
  • Inspections and Audits: Routinely inspect buildings, grounds, equipment, and operating systems to determine cleanliness, maintenance, and repair needs.
  • Safety and Training Programs: Coordinate safety and training programs in cooperation with the Safety Committee for the facilities.
  • Liaison and Communication: Act as liaison between the college and vendors and with the state's central staff regarding facilities.
  • Maintenance and Custodial Services: Perform maintenance and custodial services in absence of or in assistance with maintenance and/or custodial personnel.
  • Strategic Planning and Action: Assist in the development and coordination of the facilities master planning, updating when necessary, suggest improved efficiencies in mechanical systems, improve daily processes and procedures to increase efficiencies and reduce costs, prepare, monitor, and manage the annual budget, and serve on committees and attend organizational meetings.
  • Administrative Matters: Attend to administrative matters including but not limited to supervision, providing assignments, training, approving leave requests, preparing and conducting annual performance evaluations, issuing and documenting discipline.
Requirements
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related field (Required)
  • Work Experience: 7+ years of progressive experience in facilities/maintenance field (Required), 3+ years in HVAC system maintenance (Required), 2+ years in basic electrical, plumbing, and carpentry (Required), 3+ years of supervisory experience (Required), and 3+ years of prior work experience in a higher education setting (Required)
  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Proficient in English written and verbal communication skills, effective interpersonal skills, excellent collaboration and team-building skills, possesses strong technical aptitude, and strong mechanical skills.
  • Licenses and Certifications: Valid Driver's License (Required)
