About the Role:

Summary: As a Sommelier at Levy, you will be tasked with curating and overseeing our wine selection, enhancing the dining experience for our guests through expert wine pairings, and delivering outstanding customer service. Your extensive knowledge of wines and spirits will be instrumental in developing a remarkable beverage program that complements our culinary offerings and delights our guests.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Wine Curation: Develop and manage a diverse wine list that aligns with the restaurant's culinary style and clientele. Build strong relationships with vintners, sponsors, guests, and team members.
  • Guest Engagement: Provide tailored wine recommendations to guests based on their preferences and menu selections. Conduct wine tastings and educate guests about different wine varieties, regions, and pairings. Foster relationships with guests and season ticket holders to enhance sales opportunities.
  • Pairing Expertise: Collaborate with the culinary team to create and recommend wine pairings that elevate the overall dining experience. Work with chefs to design wine pairing menus.
  • Inventory Oversight: Manage wine inventory, including ordering, receiving, and storage. Ensure optimal wine storage conditions and manage stock levels to minimize waste while ensuring availability.
  • Staff Training: Educate and mentor front-of-house staff on wine service, including proper handling, pouring, and pairing techniques. Conduct training sessions to enhance staff knowledge and performance.
  • Quality Assurance: Ensure that all wines served meet established quality standards. Address any guest concerns regarding wine service promptly and professionally.

Adhere to all Levy policies and standards, reporting any employee infractions or irregularities to management for appropriate follow-up training or disciplinary action.

Qualifications:

  • Experience: A minimum of 2 years of experience as a Sommelier or in a similar capacity within a high-end dining environment. Relevant experience in wine service, inventory management, and guest interaction is essential.
  • Knowledge: Comprehensive understanding of global wine regions, varietals, and production methods. Familiarity with spirits and other beverages is advantageous. Introductory sommelier certification – REQUIRED LEVEL 1
  • Skills: Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and educate guests effectively. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail are crucial.
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to stand for extended periods (over 12 hours) and lift up to 20 pounds. Capable of maintaining professionalism and composure in high-pressure situations.
