Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Development Officer to join our team at the Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering. As a key member of our development team, you will be responsible for implementing and coordinating a comprehensive leadership and annual giving program aimed at identifying, cultivating, and securing gifts with a primary focus up to $50,000.

Key Responsibilities
  • Actively engage with foundation donors and the ASU community to secure gifts and grants that align with the Foundation's goals, campaign, and performance metrics.
  • Manage a portfolio of assigned leadership and annual giving prospects with a primary focus of giving capacity up to $50,000 by conducting acquisition and renewal strategies, planning and implementing strategic cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship.
  • Identify, qualify, and engage a discovery pool of annual giving prospects identified in partnership with the prospect research team to move discovery prospects into core portfolios for ongoing management and tracking
  • Support strategic fundraising and engagement efforts of leadership and annual giving prospects by refining the development and engagement activities as needed such as Sun Devil Giving Day
  • Serve as a thought partner and strategize with campaign team on best practices related to engagement, solicitations, events, and stewardship
  • Connect donors and prospects to ASU through a variety of events and engagement opportunities
  • Foster collaborative relationships with development colleagues and University constituents by coordinating joint solicitation efforts, developing internal processes and procedures, and aligning marketing and outreach efforts for multiple development programs and initiatives
  • Staff and engage with donors at ASUF and ASU events and programs
  • Perform tasks related to specific development program components assigned, such as annual giving progress, monitoring campaign progress, and unit annual giving
  • Use the donor database, Salesforce, to maintain current and confidential information on development activities
  • Work closely with colleagues across the enterprise to coordinate faculty/staff/student engagement and solicitation strategies, including but not limited to unit development staff, central fundraising team, and foundation leadership
  • Assist with campaign volunteer advancement including events and resource creation aimed at engaging students and alumni in meaningful ways that transition into engaged volunteers and donors
  • Prepare budgets as requested for specific projects and events, controlling expenditures within budget allocations
  • Make effective use of the University's prospect management database and other institutional resources to ensure appropriate management of donors, prospects, alumni, and volunteers in coordination with University objectives
Requirements
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and the ability to interact effectively with academic leadership, faculty, prospects, donors, and/or volunteers in a wide range of roles
  • Ability to conduct research, gather data, analyze information, and prepare effective, accurate, and timely reports and other documents to support development objectives
  • Database management skills
  • Ability to supervise and train employees, to include organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling work assignments
  • Ability to exercise good judgment, to demonstrate an understanding of ethics related to development activities, and to use discretion in interactions with donors, prospects, volunteers, and others
  • Ability to foster effective working relationships within a team environment
  • Community relations skills and the ability to communicate and work effectively within a diverse community
  • Program planning and leadership skills
  • Ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality and responsibility regarding information related to Foundation and University business and confidential prospect information
  • Highly developed verbal and written communication skills and the ability to present effectively to small and large groups
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and comfortable working in donor/prospect computer database systems
  • Ability to represent the institution well and possess an advocate's belief in the vision of ASU as the New American University
  • Ability to travel when necessary to execute strategic development plans for regional and national major donor prospects
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field, or currently enrolled in bachelor's degree program
  • One (1) to three (3) years of successful development experience
  • Demonstrated ability in securing major grants and gifts from individuals, corporations, foundations, and other private funding sources
  • Demonstrated ability in planning and implementing long- and short-range development initiatives in conjunction with strategic planning processes
  • Demonstrated organizational skills and experience in managing events and other complex activities in support of development objectives
Preferred Education and Experience
  • Advanced degree
  • Demonstrated supervisory experience
  • Experience working in Salesforce and Workday
  • Experience as a student worker within a university advancement office. Roles may include phonathon caller, day of giving support, alumni relations council, parent giving, event staff, etc.
Preferred Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of fundraising techniques including proposal development, prospect identification, fund solicitation, database management, donor tracking, and social networking and marketing tools in higher education
