Job Summary:

The University of Iowa is seeking a skilled Pharmacy Technician, Certified or Trainee, to join our team in the Children's Hospital Inpatient Pharmacy. As a key member of our pharmacy team, you will be responsible for providing exceptional patient care and support under the general supervision of a pharmacist.

Key Responsibilities:

Perform patient care responsibilities, including inventory maintenance, preparing drug orders, and delivering medications to patient care areas.
Maintain accurate controls and security regarding controlled substances, including inventory records and preparation for delivery to patient care areas.
Utilize aseptic technique in horizontal and vertical flow hoods to prepare sterile products, including cytotoxic and hazardous drugs, in single doses or in compounded batches.
Communicate effectively with the general public, patients, and other healthcare personnel in accordance with established departmental guidelines.

Requirements:

Registered with the Pharmacy Board at the time of hire.
National certification through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or the National Healthcareer Association (NHA).
High school diploma or the equivalent.
Any combination of two years of post-high school experience and/or education in the natural sciences, or satisfactory completion of an accredited pharmacy technician training program.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with inventory maintenance activities.
Experience working in a team environment.
Experience working in a detail-oriented work environment.
Knowledge of Windows-based computer programs.
Experience working in a healthcare environment with one-on-one patient interaction and experience handling challenging interactions in a work environment.
