Pharmacy Technician I Job Summary

This role is responsible for performing non-sterile compounding and central pharmacy operations, including preparing medication doses and responding to nursing requests. The ideal candidate will have a basic understanding of medication and pharmacy operations.

Essential Functions
  • Compounds non-sterile, non-hazardous drugs and repackages medications using pharmaceutical mathematic calculations for pharmacist approval.
  • Inventories supplies by checking for shortages, rotating stock, and removing expired medications.
  • Accurately prepares and distributes medications.
  • Documents compounding and medications in computer systems.
  • Runs basic pharmacy operation reports.
  • Responds to nursing requests by distributing doses to patients, successfully following security protocols.
  • Performs basic controlled substance distribution and delivery.
  • Fills medication trays and ensures accuracy.
  • Utilizes pharmacy resources for accurate documentation.
Minimum Qualifications

Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities as well as possession of any required licenses or certifications is qualifying.

  • Education: High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Experience: None required.
  • License/Certification: Licensed as a Pharmacy Technician by the California Board of Pharmacy -OR- Licensed as Pharmacy Intern by the California Board of Pharmacy -OR- Licensed as a Pharmacist by the California Board of Pharmacy.

  • Ability to perform routine mathematical calculations; weighing, measuring, and documentation with accuracy.

  • Ability to work effectively with individuals at all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Ability to work with devices, information systems, automated, and technical equipment utilized in pharmacy.
  • Knowledge of computer systems and software used in functional area.
  • Knowledge of local, state, and federal regulatory requirements related to areas of functional responsibility.
  • Knowledge of Medical terminology and abbreviations.
  • Knowledge of methods and procedures involved in proper handling and storing of pharmaceutical supplies.
