Job Summary

Duke Health is seeking a skilled Medical Assistant to join our team in Durham Pediatrics. As a Medical Assistant, you will play a vital role in providing direct patient care and supporting the healthcare team in a fast-paced clinical setting.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Take medical histories and record vital signs, explaining treatment procedures to patients and preparing them for examinations and procedures.
  • Assist medical and nursing staff during examinations and procedures, collect and prepare laboratory specimens, and perform basic laboratory tests in the clinic/office.
  • Dispose of contaminated supplies, process instruments, and perform high-level disinfection and sterilization of medical instruments.
  • Telephonate prescriptions to pharmacies, prepare and administer medications as directed by physicians, and authorize drug refills as needed.

Administrative Responsibilities:

  • Greet patients, answer telephones, schedule appointments, and check out patients.
  • Arrange for hospital admissions and laboratory services, update and file patient medical records, and handle billing and bookkeeping tasks.
  • Correspond with patients and healthcare providers, and order clinical and clerical supplies and forms.

Requirements:

  • Certification by AAMA, AMT, NHA-CCMA, NCMA, or ARMA required.
  • BLS certification required.
  • Graduation from a medical assistant program accredited by CAAHEP or ABHES preferred.
  • High school or GED graduation required.
