KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Evaluate and price insurance policies to confirm compliance with organizational underwriting standards and designated authority.
  • Decide on the acceptance, modification, or rejection of risks.
  • Supervise and authorize endorsements as required.
  • Address premium audit discrepancies within the designated region.
  • Employ underwriting resources to ascertain precise classifications, rates, and premium assessments.
  • Examine state regulations, including cancellation and non-renewal policies, to ensure proper business transactions.
  • Engage with general agents and brokers to gather additional information, provide quotes, or clarify underwriting criteria.
  • Generate, analyze, and interpret data from various reports.
  • Manage the assigned underwriting region, including agent management and travel to agent offices.
  • Guide and mentor junior team members.
  • Facilitate educational sessions within the department.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's degree or a minimum of three years of relevant insurance experience, or a combination of education and experience.
  • At least five years of experience in commercial casualty underwriting with authority, ideally in excess and surplus lines.
  • Proven ability to effectively engage in negotiations.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Prior educational experience in insurance, with IIA and CPCU designations highly preferred.
  • Detail-oriented with initiative and the capacity to work autonomously in a fast-paced setting.
  • Exceptional analytical abilities.
  • Willingness to travel as necessary.
  • Advanced proficiency in computer applications, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
