Job Overview

Powerhouse Arts is a non-profit organization dedicated to fostering creative expression. Located in a state-of-the-art facility, we collaborate with a diverse network of artists and educators to cultivate artistic practices that benefit both artists and their communities.

We are currently in search of a Facilities Engineer to assist the Chief Engineer in maintaining the efficient and safe operation of mechanical systems within our organization. This role is essential for ensuring a clean and secure work environment, conducting regular inspections, and performing preventive and corrective maintenance on all mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Execute ongoing preventive maintenance and repair tasks on facility systems and equipment.
  • Oversee HVAC operations, including building management systems, air conditioning units, and various mechanical equipment.
  • Conduct inspections of building systems such as fire alarms and plumbing to ensure optimal performance.
  • Familiarize yourself with equipment and methods necessary for daily operations.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance and repair records through a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS).
  • Perform facility inspections and report on conditions affecting occupancy and operations.
  • Estimate time and materials required for repairs.
  • Respond promptly to emergency situations, coordinating additional assistance as necessary.
  • Engage in Health and Safety Committee activities, including incident investigations and audits.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant government codes and regulations regarding building operations and safety practices.
  • Adhere to safety protocols, maintaining a clean and hazard-free work environment.

Qualifications:

While not all qualifications are mandatory, candidates who meet 80% of the criteria or possess transferable skills are encouraged to apply.

  • At least five years of technical experience in building engineering, with a strong focus on HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems.
  • Experience in industrial, educational, laboratory, or healthcare facilities is preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple projects effectively.
  • Familiarity with standards and codes from regulatory agencies.
  • Knowledge of OSHA standards and health and safety best practices.
  • A genuine interest in the arts.
  • Proficiency in G Suite, Microsoft Office Suite, and cloud storage platforms.
  • Possession of relevant NYC Fire Department Certificates of Fitness is required.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. safely.
  • Capacity to work in various physical positions and environments.
  • Ability to navigate the facility efficiently to perform job functions.
  • Comfortable working at heights and using equipment such as scissor lifts.

Work Schedule and Compensation: This position requires an 8-hour shift, with evening and weekend availability. The annual salary is $87,505.60, accompanied by benefits such as health insurance, retirement plans, paid vacation, and a CitiBike membership.
