Overview of the Role
This position is pivotal in collaborating with the Executive Director (Physician Leader) to spearhead a comprehensive approach for MedStar Senior Services. The focus is on optimizing clinical operations, ensuring quality patient outcomes, and maintaining fiscal responsibility. In partnership with the Executive Director, this role leads care teams across various settings to meet population health quality benchmarks, enhance patient and family experiences, promote health equity, and lower overall care costs. The role utilizes service line data to continuously assess and enhance care delivery, working alongside other system leaders to navigate care and health systems for elderly patients.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborates with the Executive Director to establish a unified management framework and execute an annual operational plan that monitors quality, service, financial, and operational goals for Senior Services.
- Formulates financial and operational strategies that align with MedStar's overarching plans, implementing best practices and benchmarks for Senior Services, including incentive alignment to retain high-performing care teams, developing cost-benefit analyses, and leveraging data to drive quality outcomes.
- Ensures effective and timely collaboration with key stakeholders, including MedStar Medical Group, hospital leadership, Clinical Care Transformation, and other executives within MedStar Health.
- Stays informed about and advocates for evidence-based care practice standards, developing standardized workflows and metrics in collaboration with the Executive Director and site leaders to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
- Oversees the selection, training, orientation, and assignment of department staff, establishing performance standards, conducting evaluations, and managing personnel actions.
- In partnership with the Executive Director, leads diverse teams by setting clear performance expectations, providing ongoing feedback, and fostering a culture of accountability.
- Evaluates productivity, billing, and profit/loss for each cost center, ensuring compliance with billing and coding practices relevant to risk stratification and populations with serious health conditions.
- Engages in operations related to new payment models tailored for geriatrics, aligning with MedStar's strategic direction.
- Develops and recommends the annual departmental budget, prepares a five-year financial forecast, and manages resources to adhere to approved budgets.
- Assists in contract negotiations that align with strategic objectives, managing the requirements for proposals, outcomes, and financial reporting.
- Builds and maintains effective relationships with key clinical and community partners, demonstrating excellent customer service and resolving issues to ensure departmental functionality.
- Participates in meetings, conferences, and committees, representing the department in community outreach and advocacy initiatives.
- Contributes to multidisciplinary quality and service improvement teams, maintaining effective relationships with other departments.
- Establishes departmental goals, objectives, policies, and procedures, ensuring compliance with organizational policies and relevant regulations.
Qualifications
- Education: Master's degree in Healthcare Administration or a related field is required.
Experience:
- 5-7 years of relevant experience in a healthcare setting, demonstrating a successful track record of leading teams, knowledge of operational processes, performance improvement, and data collection.
- Experience managing complex projects and familiarity with financial reporting and budgeting is essential; clinical service and/or geriatric experience is preferred.
Skills and Abilities:
- Strong analytical, verbal and written communication, organizational, and planning skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office is required.
- Ability to effectively manage staff and lead teams.
- Exceptional time management skills with a proven ability to plan, organize, and implement projects to completion.
- Capability to manage multiple projects and prioritize tasks independently.
