Job Overview

E2 is seeking a Distribution Design Engineer to join our team in the greater Los Angeles area to support several major electric utility clients. The successful candidate will be responsible for analyzing overhead electrical distribution systems using PLS-CADD Software. Projects include Pole Replacements, Covered Conductor Replacements, True Up Modifications, Equipment Upgrades, and Full Distribution Line Design.

Responsibilities
  • Develop detailed design and construction packages of overhead and/or underground electric distribution systems to comply with client standards, specifications, preferences, and relevant industry standards.
  • Perform field evaluation of proposed installation sites as required.
  • Verify Bill of Materials meet the requirements of the design and client needs.
  • Design distribution projects with neatness and a small margin for error utilizing PLS-CADD, O-Calc, SPIDA-Calc, or PoleForeman software.
  • Perform engineering calculations such as structural analysis for wood pole loading, guying calculations, specifying conductor sags and tensions for recommended spans, and calculation of voltage drop and flicker.
  • Conduct electrical design review meetings and provide minutes.
  • Interface with project management and designers during the design phase.
  • Communicate and coordinate project activities with the supervising engineer, client, and other stakeholders as needed.
  • Perform careful quality review activities of junior engineers to ensure the quality of work.
Qualifications
  • Required Qualifications
    • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering.
    • 0-5 years of experience working in distribution design or similar with utility or consulting engineering firm.
    • Basic knowledge of electrical distribution systems.
    • Proficient using Microsoft Office suite (e.g., Excel, Word, and Outlook).
    • Strong analytical, problem-solving skills, and attention to detail.
    • Basic written and verbal communication skills.
  • Preferred Qualifications
    • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) Certification preferred but not required.
    • Experience with distribution design and construction standards for PacifiCorp.
    • Experience with PLS-CADD Software.
