Position: Culinary Support Specialist for Multiple Locations

Under the guidance of the Food Service Director and in collaboration with the Kitchen Chef/Site Manager, you will assist in the preparation, serving, and cleanup of all food services on program days. The schedule for this role will vary from week to week.

REGULATIONS AND SANITATION

  • Adhere to all relevant state and city regulations concerning food storage, preparation, and the upkeep of kitchen facilities, equipment, food storage areas, and dining spaces.
  • Maintain current Food Protection Certification from the NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene.
  • Ensure sanitary and organized conditions in all food preparation, serving, and storage areas.

MENU PLANNING

  • Follow the posted menu whenever possible. If certain menu items are unavailable or cannot be prepared in time, strive to create a balanced meal featuring a protein, starch, non-starchy vegetable, and a fruit for dessert.
  • Request kitchen-tested recipes from the dietitian if they are not available on-site. Recipes should align with the planned menus for the lunch program.
  • Regularly meet with supervisors and participants to discuss food service and coverage.

PROCUREMENT

  • Handle the ordering of all food supplies and coordinate with vendors/suppliers during extended absences due to vacation or illness.
  • Adhere to the monthly food budget set by the Food Service Director or Dietitian during coverage periods.
  • Maintain an adequate inventory of food, utensils, and supplies to ensure sufficient stock for meal preparation throughout the coverage duration. After coverage, compile a list of items that need replenishment.

FOOD PREPARATION

  • Prepare and/or oversee the preparation of meals, ensuring an appealing and complete presentation of standard meal portions.
  • Prepare and serve all meals for residents at each location you are covering.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

  • At least 1 year of experience in a kitchen environment preparing and serving meals for 25 or more individuals.
  • Possession of a valid Food Protection Certification from the NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene is mandatory.
  • Experience in supervision and food procurement is preferred.
  • Ability to lift 25 lbs.
  • Capacity to stand for extended periods.
  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Proficient in speaking, reading, and writing English as required by DSS regulations.
