Position: Culinary Specialist

Reports To: Back of House Management

Position Summary:

The Culinary Specialist plays a crucial role in managing the workflow of the kitchen station, ensuring that each dish is prepared and presented on schedule. This position involves overseeing the entire cooking process from preparation to plating, while maintaining fully stocked stations to deliver exceptional quality dishes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Exhibit advanced cooking techniques, including grilling, roasting, and sautéing.
  • Demonstrate proficient knife skills.
  • Work efficiently under pressure and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Collaborate effectively with team members.
  • Understand and implement food safety protocols as per health regulations.
  • Communicate clearly and effectively.
  • Maintain a positive demeanor even in high-pressure situations.

Additional Requirements:

  • Consistent attendance is vital for success in this role; failure to adhere to attendance standards may result in disciplinary actions.
  • Willingness to work extended hours, irregular shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
  • Compliance with company policies and regulations is mandatory; violations may lead to disciplinary actions.

  • Ability to read and write effectively to facilitate communication.
  • Capability to stand, walk, and perform essential functions for extended periods.
  • Physical ability to bend, stoop, kneel, and walk as required.
  • Punctuality, focus, dedication, and reliability are essential, along with a flexible schedule.
  • Ensure timely and high-quality food service.
  • Adhere to kitchen operational procedures and hygiene standards.
  • Proficiency in the primary language(s) used in the workplace.
  • Ability to perform tasks in varying temperature conditions.

Physical Demands:

  • Must be able to bend, stoop, squat, and stretch as necessary.
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs regularly.
  • Engage in various physical activities including grasping, writing, standing, sitting, walking, and repetitive motions.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Culinary diploma or equivalent experience preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum of 2 years of experience in a New York restaurant environment, specifically in hot line stations, grill, and sauté.
