Job Summary

The University of South Carolina Upstate is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Career Readiness Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our workforce development team, you will be responsible for recruiting, certifying, and enrolling participants in career readiness activities, work-based learning experiences, and drivers education. You will also serve as a case manager, entering information into the South Carolina Works Online Systems (SCWOS) and performing 12-month follow-up activities.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Recruit and certify participants, including completing enrollment applications in SCWOS and maintaining accurate enrollment files.
  • Develop and implement career readiness activities, including resume building, career exploration, mock interviews, labor market information, and entrepreneurial training.
  • Foster partnerships with local businesses to provide paid job internships, pre-apprenticeships, on-the-job training, and job shadowing opportunities.
  • Monitor work-based learning experiences and obtain feedback from business partners.
  • Conduct home visits and use various communication channels to contact exited and/or absentee participants.
  • Assist participants in finding employment and entering post-secondary education, while performing 12-month follow-up activities.
Requirements:
  • Masters degree in Student Services or a related field, or a bachelors degree and 2 years of related experience.
  • Valid drivers license, good driving record, and successful background check.
  • Strong preference for job development and teaching experience, as well as knowledge of local businesses.
