Position Summary

We are seeking a skilled Somali Interpreter to become a vital part of our team. This position demands a committed individual capable of delivering precise and fluent interpretation between Somali and English, ensuring effective communication among diverse community members and service providers.


Key Responsibilities

  • Facilitate in-person interpreting sessions between Somali-speaking clients and English-speaking professionals.
  • Provide accurate and context-sensitive interpretation while maintaining the original message.
  • Follow ethical guidelines to safeguard confidentiality and impartiality throughout the interpretation process.
  • Assist with the translation of written materials from Somali to English and vice versa as required.
  • Engage in continuous professional development to improve language skills and familiarize with specialized terminology across various fields.
  • Handle scheduling and client interactions with professionalism and timeliness.

Required Qualifications

  • Fluency in both Somali and English with strong verbal and written communication abilities.
  • A minimum of two years of experience in professional interpretation.
  • Preferred certification from a recognized interpreting organization (e.g., CCHI, NBCMI).
  • Deep understanding of cultural nuances in both languages.
  • Excellent listening, retention, and note-taking capabilities.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in team environments.
