About Women In Need, Inc.

Women In Need, Inc. is committed to disrupting the cycle of homelessness by offering transitional and supportive housing solutions for families led by women. Many of our clients have fled domestic violence and are determined to keep their families together and secure. Our Income Building Program aids clients in transitioning from unemployment to stable employment, while also assisting those already employed in enhancing their job situations. This includes efforts to increase wages, shift from part-time to full-time roles, secure health benefits, and transition from informal to formal employment. Furthermore, we provide financial literacy workshops to equip our clients with essential skills such as budgeting, bill management, and basic financial oversight. Our current operational budget stands at approximately $150 million, with $14 million raised through private and corporate contributions, which support various programs including the Income Building Program and Camp Win.

Opportunity Purpose

Are you an innovative and entrepreneurial fundraising expert with a strong desire to create a positive impact? As the Director of Special Events at Women In Need, Inc., you will spearhead and coordinate revenue-generating events that are crucial to our mission. Reporting directly to the Vice President, you will be the key architect behind event planning and execution, ensuring that each event not only meets but surpasses our annual objectives. Your exceptional relationship-building abilities will be vital in managing high-profile fundraising events and securing essential funding for our organization.

Key ResponsibilitiesEvent Management
  • Oversee all event logistics, including signage, registration, volunteer coordination, staffing, and talent management.
  • Conceive and implement unforgettable events for Women In Need, Inc.: Coordinate vendor schedules, manage venue contracts, design save-the-date invitations, and handle media production, catering, photography, videography, and consulting for each event.
  • Develop and manage the timeline and production of major fundraising events.
Financial Oversight
  • Create and maintain a comprehensive management plan for major fundraising events.
  • Oversee budget expenditures, participant acquisition, cultivation, and retention, solicit corporate sponsorships, and manage pre- and post-event follow-ups.
  • Recruit and manage event committees while ensuring timelines are adhered to for all design materials.
Donor Engagement and Fundraising
  • Monitor and manage ticket sales and sponsorships, draft correspondence, and execute sponsorship benefits.
  • Assist the Vice President of Stakeholder Engagement in fostering and maintaining strong relationships with board members, event chairs, committees, and honorees.
  • Act as the primary relationship manager for key partners and major events.
  • Collaborate with board members and senior staff to achieve budget goals with a strong emphasis on return on investment (ROI).
  • Work with the communications team to develop and implement effective marketing strategies that promote Women In Need events.
  • Research and present potential new donor prospects and key industry stakeholders to senior leadership.
Performance Analytics
  • Maintain a comprehensive database for all event donors and contributions.
  • Implement an evaluation process for events to assess ROI and ensure ongoing improvement.
  • Maintain a flexible work schedule that may include evenings and weekends as necessary.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Essential Qualifications
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills with a keen attention to detail.
  • Strong commitment to the mission, vision, and values of Women In Need, Inc.
  • Bachelor's degree plus five (5) years of experience in managing high-profile fundraising events.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office; Salesforce experience is a plus.
  • Familiarity with graphic design, photography, video editing, InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator is advantageous.
