The Role of Senior Portfolio Manager
The Senior Portfolio Manager plays a vital role in supporting the Middle Market Commercial Banking team. This position involves analyzing financial statements of commercial enterprises with revenues ranging from $20 million to $500 million and calculating essential credit metrics, including cash flow, leverage, working capital, and collateral coverage.
Key Responsibilities
1. Manage a designated portfolio of commercial clients in collaboration with the relationship manager.
2. Oversee reporting for portfolio management, including delinquency, problem loans, exceptions, and tickler tracking as directed by the Chief Credit Officer.
3. Coordinate the collection and evaluation of financial statements, tax returns, compliance certificates, and borrowing bases to meet customer reporting obligations.
4. Monitor the assigned portfolio for early indicators of financial distress or other risks, working with borrowers to create and implement risk mitigation strategies.
5. Prepare comprehensive credit packages for annual reviews, renewals, loan requests, and portfolio assessments.
6. Structure and underwrite complex commercial loan transactions within the assigned portfolio and for new business opportunities.
7. Provide credit recommendations to the appropriate level of credit administration.
8. Review and negotiate loan documentation in consultation with legal advisors, ensuring proper closure of renewals and modifications.
9. Act as a liaison for internal audits, loan reviews, compliance assessments, and regulatory examinations.
10. Adhere to all bank policies and procedures, as well as applicable state and federal regulations.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in business administration, finance, accounting, or a related field.
- A minimum of 7 years of commercial credit experience, particularly in corporate banking, middle market, or commercial real estate, with a preference for leveraged lending experience.
- Comprehensive understanding of risk management and credit mitigants.
- Proficient in risk ratings analysis, corporate finance, and research.
- Strong analytical and financial modeling skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
- Proven interpersonal skills with a track record of establishing client relationships.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly advanced Excel modeling.
- Familiarity with Moody's analytics is advantageous.
