Job Summary

NYC Health + Hospitals is seeking a skilled Patient Care Associate to join our team. As a Patient Care Associate, you will provide high-quality care to patients in our Ambulatory Care department.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide skillful, quality care for all patients seen in the Ambulatory Care department.
  • Perform or assist with all activities within the scope of a Patient Care Associate, Nurse Aide, and/or Medical/Surgical/Ambulatory Care Technician job description.
  • Instruct patients on proper preparation for various medical testing.
  • Prepare patient for examination and assist medical provider during examination by providing necessary supplies/equipment.
  • Prepare examining room for examination including cleaning of instruments and equipment.
  • Check vital signs, weight, height as indicated, and document findings on medical record.
  • Perform vision and hearing testing, simple urinalysis, and urine pregnancy testing.
  • Perform simple first aid, such as simple dry dressing changes.
  • Perform screening for blood glucose levels.
  • Conduct interview of client to obtain routine personal and demographic information.
  • Assist appropriately in emergencies, demonstrates knowledge of CPR.
  • Report observations of patient to nursing/medical staff caring for patient to ensure professional assessment.
  • Act as a liaison between patients and Medical/Nursing staff such as answering routine inquiries in person or via telephone.
  • Participate in informing patients and their families of health care services and achieving healthful, safe living.
  • Act as a greeter and direct and escort patients to other hospital departments as needed.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or its educational equivalent, approved by a State's Department of Education or a recognized accrediting organization.
  • Successful completion of a NYS Department of Health prescribed training program for Phlebotomy, satisfactory to the Laboratory Director.
  • Completion of a healthcare setting-based training program in the performance of electrocardiographs and basic life support procedures including certification in Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation.
