Patient Care Associate
Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled Patient Care Associate to join our team at G.A.S. Global. As a Patient Care Associate, you will work under the direct supervision of a licensed Nurse or other professional medical staff in a healthcare setting, performing a variety of clerical and health-related duties associated with patient care.
Key Responsibilities
- Collect and record patient vital signs, weights, and measures, and obtain specimens for laboratory testing.
- Instruct patients on how to obtain specimens for laboratory testing and perform basic specimen screening testing.
- Prepare collected specimens for pick-up by labeling and preparing required forms.
- Perform vision and hearing testing, and simple urinalysis.
- Administer emergency first aid, including basic life support procedures.
- Perform simple first aid, such as dressing changes, bandaging, and cleansing of wounds.
- Prepare patients for examination and assist medical providers during examination by providing necessary supplies and equipment.
- Prepare examining rooms for examination, including cleaning and sterilizing instruments and equipment.
- Inform patients on proper preparation for various medical testing.
- Conduct interviews with clients to obtain routine personal and medical information and appropriate health history.
- Maintain, complete, process, and file patients' charts, appropriate forms, and documents.
- Report observations of patients to medical staff caring for patients to ensure professional assessment.
- Answer routine inquiries of patients in person or via telephone and make appropriate referrals.
- Participate in informing patients and their families of healthcare services and achieving healthful, safe living.
- Maintain inventory of the unit's equipment stock and supplies.
- Work effectively as a team member in the delivery of care and assist in the orientation of new employees.
- Direct and escort patients to other hospital departments and/or facilities, as needed.
- Coordinate efforts of various clinic and facility departments in scheduling and rebooking appointments through manual and/or automated systems and enter pertinent patient information into hospital data systems.
- Obtain blood specimens for laboratory testing by performing venipuncture and/or fingerstick testing.
- Operate electrocardiograph equipment to record electrical wave tracing of the electrical currents of the heart muscle.
Requirements
- 2 years of experience required.
Education/Training/Certifications
- AHA BLS certification.
- High school diploma or its educational equivalent.
- Completion of a NYS Department of Health prescribed training program for Phlebotomy, satisfactory to the Laboratory Director.
- Completion of a healthcare setting-based training program in the performance of electrocardiographs.
Additional Requirements
- Malpractice Insurance - All clinical workers are required to have active individual Medical Malpractice insurance prior to start of assignment.
