Job Summary
The Delaware Department of Justice is seeking a highly skilled and experienced individual to join the Extradition Unit within the Administrative Division in the New Castle County office as a Special Investigator/State Detective.
Key Responsibilities
- Handle all aspects of extradition, including prisoner movement and security, anticipating and resolving potential problems while moving a fugitive, and logistical support of those operations.
- Maintain professional contacts and communications with all law enforcement partners involved in the extradition process.
- Collaborate with teams to ensure the successful completion of extradition operations.
- Develop and implement effective strategies to resolve complex extradition issues.
- Provide expert advice and guidance to colleagues on extradition procedures and best practices.
Requirements
- Substantial experience as a law enforcement officer.
- Current POST certificate formally known as Council on Police Training (COPT) certificate.
- Possession of a valid driver's license.
- Ability to qualify and carry a weapon.
- Proficient with computer applications such as Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel.
- Maintain professional certification in CJIS, DELJIS, NCIC, Patriarch, and firearms certifications.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Working Conditions
The Special Investigator/State Detective is required to travel extensively, both within the state and out of state, to facilitate extradition operations. This position requires flexibility with scheduling and the ability to work outside of normal office hours.
