Job Summary

AmSpec Group is seeking a skilled Sample Handler to join our team. As a Sample Handler, you will be responsible for all activities involving sample handling, including receiving, tracking, storage, and disposal.

Responsibilities

The ideal candidate will have a strong attention to detail and be able to effectively manage multiple tasks simultaneously. Key responsibilities include:

  • Logging in, tracking, correctly storing, and disposing of all samples
  • Familiarity with American Petroleum Institute (API) procedures and documents as they relate to samples
  • Familiarity with EPA regulations governing samples, particularly as they relate to disposal and maintenance of disposal records
  • Carrying out assigned tasks in accordance with the latest industry standards and practices and in accordance with specific instructions given by the Laboratory manager and/or supervisor
  • Preparing all reports pertaining to samples
  • Maintaining a clean, organized, and safe working environment

Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A high school diploma and related experience in the industry (preferable)
  • The ability to read, write, and clearly communicate in English
  • The ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, schedulers, and clients
  • The ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule formats
  • Familiarity with basic computer skills in word processing and spreadsheet programs
  • The ability to interact with office and laboratory personnel in a proper, professional, and business-like manner

Working Conditions

The employee may be exposed to fumes, airborne particles, and toxic or caustic chemicals. AmSpec Group provides product information, training, engineering controls, and personal protective equipment to protect employees from exposure to potentially harmful levels of those materials. Employees are required to read product information, use available engineering controls, follow guidelines presented during training, and be able to wear and use appropriate protective equipment, including respiratory protective equipment, as may be required by the work environment.

Physical Requirements

To perform this job safely and effectively, you will need to:

  • Pass a drug and alcohol test specified by AmSpec Group
  • Pass an annual Pulmonary Fitness and Respirator Fit Test
  • Pass a physical examination by a physician designated by AmSpec Group, both before employment and at any time during employment upon request of AmSpec Group to confirm your ability to perform the essential job functions of the position
  • Be able to stand for extended periods and lift/carry boxes weighing up to 45lbs
  • Be able to work in the presence of odors, typical of petroleum or petrochemicals, without allergic reactions or nausea when such odors are within OSHA-designated permissible exposure limits (PELs)
