Job Title: Veteran Peer Specialist

US VETS Inc is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Veteran Peer Specialist to join our team. As a Veteran Peer Specialist, you will play a vital role in providing guidance and support to veterans, helping them achieve their highest level of independence and assisting in the daily implementation of basic residential services.

Responsibilities:
  • Provide peer support and guidance to veterans, helping them navigate life skills and recovery issues.
  • Assist in the daily implementation of basic residential services, including listening, encouraging, coaching, and empowering veterans.
  • Coordinate and plan site-wide events with onsite staff and community organizers to foster a cohesive community.
  • Identify and utilize community resources to meet client needs.
  • Transport clients to community medical, housing, errands, and other appointments, and accompany them for peer support as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
  • High School Diploma required.
  • One year of experience in social services or a related field preferred.
  • A veteran of the U.S. military or military-related family member is preferred.
  • Knowledge of empowerment and self-advocacy techniques.
  • Experience working with homeless and/or veterans preferred.
  • Experience in a residential environment of persons with histories of homelessness with co-occurring mental health and substance abuse disorders.
  • Experience facilitating support groups preferred.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Professional manner and appearance.
  • Ability to work independently and within a team.
  • Ability to take direction.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse groups of clients, staff, and community members.
  • Computer proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel) and Internet and ability to use client tracking databases and electronic case records.
  • Valid driver's license required.
