Electrical Maritime Safety Manager

Join M. C. Dean in a dynamic and challenging maritime environment as an Electrical Maritime Safety Manager. This critical role ensures the safety and compliance of electrical operations, requiring a dedicated safety professional with a strong background in electrical safety and a passion for promoting safe work practices in shipbuilding.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop, implement, and monitor safety protocols and procedures specific to electrical systems in shipbuilding and maritime operations.
  • Conduct regular safety audits and inspections of electrical systems, equipment, and operations to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with safety regulations.
  • Lead safety training programs for employees, focusing on electrical safety practices, emergency response procedures, and proper use of equipment.
  • Investigate electrical incidents and accidents, determine root causes, and develop corrective actions to prevent future occurrences.
  • Collaborate with engineering and construction teams to ensure electrical safety is integrated into the design, construction, and maintenance of maritime vessels.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry standards, regulatory requirements, and best practices related to electrical safety in maritime environments.
  • Prepare and submit detailed safety reports to management and regulatory bodies as required.
  • Provide expert advice and support to project teams on all aspects of electrical safety.
  • Conduct new hire orientation (OSHA 10, 30, and CPR/FA training).
  • Create, develop, and implement safety training plans and curriculums.
  • Redesign training material, programs, and the employee experience in hands-on training.
  • Understand and interpret electrical safety standards; 29 CFR1915, the National Electric Code (NEC), the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA)70E, NESC (National Electrical Safety Code), and oversee and manage the NFPA 70E training program.
  • Monitor and measure the effectiveness of training programs.
  • Mentor safety professionals and cross-train with other safety professionals and communicate updates to safety training material across the organization.
  • Remain current with all regulatory, operational, and technical matters relative to safety management and safety training programs.
  • Participate in meetings with customers, project team members, and contractors/subcontractors and advise on project-specific Risk and Hazard mitigation plans, S&H training program, and technical reports.
Qualifications:
  • 8-10 years with a Bachelor's, 6-8 years with a Master's, or 11-13 years with an Associate's degree in Electrical Engineering, Occupational Safety, or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum of five years of experience in electrical safety management, preferably in the maritime or shipbuilding industry.
  • Naval electrical safety experience is highly preferred.
  • In-depth knowledge of electrical safety standards and regulations, such as NFPA 70E, OSHA 1915, and relevant maritime safety codes.
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills, with the ability to identify and mitigate risks effectively.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to conduct training sessions and interact with diverse teams.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and safety management software.
  • Certification in electrical safety or occupational safety (e.g., CSP, CHST) is a plus.
  • Safety Management Systems knowledge, skill, and experience.
  • ANSI-Z10, ISO 45001, ISO 31000.
  • Understanding of culture and culture building skills.
  • Trainer Designation a plus.
  • OSHA 5410/5400.
  • Graduate Safety Practitioner (GSP).
  • Willingness to pursue Associate Safety Professional (ASP), Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST).
  • Willingness to pursue Certified Electrical Safety Compliance Professional (CESCP).
  • Clearable US Citizen with the ability to obtain and maintain Top Secret (TS) clearance.
  • Ability and willingness to travel 20%.
