POSITION SUMMARY:

The Family Support Worker (FSW) plays a crucial role in delivering a wide range of essential services aimed at effectively overcoming family challenges and enhancing their preventive capabilities through a strengths-based and solution-oriented approach.

The FSW collaborates closely with families to avert out-of-home placements for children and/or facilitate family reunification following foster care interventions.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

The FSW will:

  • Work collaboratively with clients to execute recommendations from various stakeholders, including the Department of Human Services and Community Services Board.
  • Participate in all necessary meetings with clients and relevant stakeholders.
  • Support clients in enhancing their parenting abilities through modeling and coaching techniques.
  • Conduct therapeutic supervised or monitored visitations as required.
  • Assist clients in meeting the objectives outlined in their Family Intervention Plan (FIP).
  • Connect clients with appropriate community-based resources.
  • Provide transportation as needed and remain adaptable to address urgent situations.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The FSW primarily operates within the community, engaging with families. Responsibilities include case coordination, goal setting, resource linkage, advocacy, education, and evaluation. Community interactions may involve various entities such as the Department of Human Services, local Community Services Boards, courts, schools, and potential employers.

The FSW typically dedicates around five hours per week to each case, with early morning, evening, and weekend hours being common.


ADDITIONAL DUTIES:
  • Facilitate weekly communications with the Case Service Coordinator and Parent/Guardian.
  • Model and instruct problem-solving strategies.
  • Deliver diverse interventions aligned with FIP goals.
  • Maintain precise, comprehensive, and confidential records reflecting timely assessments and service delivery.
  • Prepare and submit reports in accordance with agency policies regarding transmission methods and timeliness.
  • Attend all relevant training sessions, regular meetings, and scheduled individual and group supervisions.
  • Provide transportation when necessary.
  • Assist clients in developing essential skills such as budgeting, parenting, and child development.
  • Monitor the home environment to ensure safety and compliance.
  • As a mandated reporter, promptly report any suspicions of abuse or neglect.

QUALIFICATIONS:

A Bachelor’s Degree in Human Services or related fields (such as Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, Sociology, Child Development, Special Education, or Criminal Justice) is required. A minimum of one (1) year of relevant experience is necessary for candidates with a degree. Alternatively, candidates without a degree must possess at least five (5) years of experience working with at-risk populations.
