Job Summary

A training position designed to learn through engagement in an advanced level of scientific, technical, and administrative work in support of research efforts in an assigned laboratory research setting.

Key Responsibilities
  • Coordinate and participate in research of scientific literature; summarize and evaluate findings; develop derivative applications of techniques developed by own research activities or reported by other research projects.
  • Participate in project planning and development of research protocols while ensuring adherence to accepted scientific research principles and compliance with relevant federal guidelines.
  • Study the signaling mechanisms underlying cell-to-cell communication in the brain using patch-clamp electrophysiology, live confocal imaging, immunohistochemistry, molecular biology, or 3D cell reconstruction.
  • Compose articles for publication in scientific journals.
  • Supervise and coordinate activities of students, graduate assistants, and other research personnel engaged in research activities and/or related laboratory work.
  • Advise principal investigator, other postdocs, students, and other research personnel on research techniques, procedures, and other technological aspects of research activities.
  • Calibrate, troubleshoot, repair, and operate microscopes, computer-linked analytical equipment, dedicated computers, and other complex scientific equipment.
Requirements
  • Ph.D. degree from an accredited college or university.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Additional preferred qualifications include experience in the exploration of cardiovascular diseases and neurodegeneration, encompassing hypertension, heart failure, and Alzheimer's disease.
  • Technical expertise in molecular biology, microcirculation, patch-clamp electrophysiology, in vivo two-photon imaging, in situ live confocal microscopy, immunohistochemistry, RNA-seq, and rodent surgeries is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and other computer software/databases.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
