Job Summary

A postdoctoral research position is available in the Department of Physiology at Augusta University. The successful candidate will engage in advanced scientific, technical, and administrative work in support of research efforts in an assigned laboratory research setting. The position involves participating in research data collection and documentation, developing and evaluating new research techniques and procedures, and publishing results in scientific journals. The candidate will perform a variety of complex chemical, biological, microscopic, histologic, surgical, clinical, statistical/computational, and dissection procedures.

Responsibilities

The duties of this position include, but are not limited to:
  • Coordinate and participate in research of scientific literature; summarize and evaluate findings; develop derivative applications of techniques developed by own research activities or reported by other research projects. Presents findings at scientific meetings locally, nationally, and/or internationally.
  • Participate in project planning and development of research protocols while ensuring adherence to accepted scientific research principles and compliance with relevant federal guidelines.
  • To study the signaling mechanisms underlying cell-to-cell communication in the brain using patch-clamp electrophysiology, live confocal imaging, immunohistochemistry, molecular biology, or 3D cell reconstruction.
  • Compose articles for publication in scientific journals.
  • Supervise and coordinate activities of students, graduate assistants, and other research personnel engaged in research activities and/or related laboratory work. Advise principal investigator, other postdocs, students, and other research personnel on research techniques, procedures, and other technological aspects of research activities.
  • Calibrate, troubleshoot, repair, and operate microscopes, computer-linked analytical equipment, dedicated computers, and other complex scientific equipment; instruct others in operation of equipment.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.


Requirements

A Ph.D. degree from an accredited college or university is required. Preferred qualifications include additional experience in cardiovascular diseases and neurodegeneration, encompassing hypertension, heart failure, and Alzheimer's disease. The candidate should be proficient in Microsoft Office and other computer software/databases. Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills are also required. The ability to maintain confidentiality is essential.
