Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Neuroscience

A Postdoctoral Fellow position is available to investigate the cellular and molecular mechanisms and neural circuits underlying neurodegenerative disorders and stress disorders. The ideal candidate should have a PhD or equivalent degree in life sciences and be self-motivated for high-quality research. Background in neuroscience, physiology, molecular and cellular biology, cell culture, mouse behavioral analysis and sufficient experience in molecular, cellular and brain imaging is ideal.
Responsibilities
The selected candidate will participate in project planning and development of research protocols while ensuring adherence to accepted scientific research principles and compliance with relevant federal guidelines. Responsibilities include performing a variety of experimental studies including animal behavior, cell biology, and molecular biology experiments. Experiments may include but are not limited to performing animal surgery, micro-injunction, behavioral testing genotyping, western blot, real-time PCR, immunohistochemistry and various microscopy and imaging techniques. The candidate will also analyze results of experiments and procedures using manual or computer techniques and, if necessary, develop special computer programs to facilitate analysis.
Additionally, the candidate will coordinate and participate in research of scientific literature; summarize and evaluate findings; develop derivative applications of techniques developed by own research activities or reported by other research projects. The candidate will present findings at scientific meetings locally, nationally, and internationally. The candidate will also compose articles for publication in scientific journals; review articles prepared by others.
Requirements
The ideal candidate should have a PhD or equivalent degree from an accredited college or university. Proficient in Microsoft Office and other computer software/databases or willingness to learn. Excellent interpersonal, written/verbal communication skills. Strong organizational skills, detail-oriented, and ability to prioritize tasks. Ability to complete work and meet deadlines. Commitment to perform high-quality research. Ability to maintain confidentiality and work as a team. Willingness and ability to work with research animals. Ability to work independently with only general supervision. Commitment to sustaining a collaborative, interdisciplinary work environment.
