Position: CNC Machining Specialist (Grinder)

Reports To: Department Supervisor

Employment Type: Full-Time

Objective

The CNC Machining Specialist is responsible for setting up and operating CNC and manual grinding machines to execute precise machining tasks.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Interprets process documentation, blueprints, and sketches to ascertain machining requirements, dimensional specifications, and operational guidelines.
  2. Secures workpieces using centers, chucks, or faceplates.
  3. Selects and installs appropriate tooling in tool posts, turrets, or automatic tool change systems as outlined in the process documentation.
  4. Initiates machining operations by engaging control mechanisms.
  5. Monitors control panels and cross-references with process documentation to ensure accuracy in dimensions, feed rates, and machining speeds.
  6. Conducts inspections on initial pieces and performs spot checks on subsequent pieces to ensure compliance with specifications.
  7. Prepares job packets and organizes materials for upcoming runs during automated cycles to minimize changeover durations.
  8. Prepares tools prior to their installation in milling or lathe machines.
  9. Adheres to the weekly production schedule to meet shipping timelines.
  10. Maintains machine cleanliness and performs routine maintenance, completing necessary checklists.
  11. Confirms availability of required tooling for daily operations.

  2. Technical Proficiency: Recognizes personal strengths and weaknesses, seeks training opportunities, and shares knowledge with peers.
  3. Team Collaboration: Balances individual and team responsibilities, providing and accepting constructive feedback.
  4. Safety Awareness: Adheres to safety protocols, reports unsafe conditions, and utilizes equipment responsibly.
  5. Reliability: Follows directives, responds to management guidance, and completes tasks punctually or communicates alternative plans when necessary.
  6. Education and Experience: Associate's degree or equivalent from a technical institution; or six months to one year of relevant experience and/or training; or a combination of education and experience.
  7. Language Proficiency: Capable of reading and interpreting safety guidelines, operational instructions, and procedural manuals. Able to compose routine reports and communicate effectively.
  8. Mathematical Skills: Proficient in basic algebra and geometry.
  9. Computer Skills: Familiarity with basic computer operations and Epicor Manufacturing software.
