This position is pivotal in developing, executing, and refining manufacturing methodologies while driving continuous enhancements to existing processes. You will collaborate closely with a diverse team across Operations, Quality Assurance, Design Engineering, and Product Development.
Key Responsibilities:
- Engage in the following duties:
- Design and implement CNC programming and detailed process plans for precision machining operations.
- Identify and apply appropriate workholding and cutting tools for manufacturing tasks.
- Draft and maintain comprehensive process documentation, including routings and work instructions.
- Establish standard operating procedures and time benchmarks for machining and assembly workflows.
- Define inspection protocols and assist in resolving quality-related challenges.
- Provide ongoing support to the production floor to ensure operational efficiency.
- Educate operational staff on the application of manufacturing techniques and processes.
- Lead initiatives for production launches and enhancements to support both new and existing projects.
- Assist in the specification and introduction of new machinery and processes.
- Utilize LEAN manufacturing principles to optimize workflows, minimize waste, and foster a culture of continuous improvement.
- Implement data-driven strategies to lower costs and improve quality, utilizing methodologies such as FMEA, SPC, and PPAP.
- Apply statistical analysis to troubleshoot manufacturing processes and conduct root cause investigations.
- Support and oversee New Product Introduction (NPI) projects.
- Collaborate on product design efforts to ensure manufacturing processes are aligned with product and customer specifications.
- Engage in team discussions to address and resolve complex challenges.
- Maintain a positive attitude and promote team development.
- Investigate opportunities for continuous improvement across the Harmonic product line.
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering.
- A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in a precision machining environment.
- At least 3 years of hands-on experience operating both manual and CNC production machinery.
- In-depth knowledge of standard machine tools, including lathes, mills, and grinders.
- Familiarity with gear hobbing, shaping, and grinding processes.
- Experience in process, tooling, and fixture design.
- Proficient programming skills for 3, 4, and 5 axis CNC machines, preferably using ESPRIT.
- Understanding of precision inspection techniques and equipment.
- Strong capabilities in CAD software such as SolidEdge or SolidWorks.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
- Knowledge of industry standards including DIN, SAE, ASTM, and AGMA.
- Familiarity with specialized processing operations like Heat Treating and Non-Destructive Testing.
- Experience with quality systems, including PPAP, FMEA, and Control Plans.
- Background in LEAN methodologies and root cause analysis.
- Understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
- Project management experience.
- Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities.
- Self-driven with a strong commitment to completing tasks and projects.
- Ideal candidates will have experience in the design and manufacturing of strain wave gearing and components.
