Responsibilities:
  • Assess patient needs for ventilators, Bi-PAP/CPAP, oxygen, and aerosol equipment, and communicate with the healthcare team as necessary.
  • Set up, operate, and maintain ventilators, Bi-PAP/CPAP, oxygen, and aerosol equipment in accordance with clinical standards and department policies.
  • Perform bedside diagnostic procedures, including pulmonary function testing, pulse oximetry, and capnometry, and communicate results to the healthcare team.
  • Obtain arterial blood and perform whole blood analysis, including blood gas analysis, and recommend appropriate therapy or changes in therapy.
  • Provide patient and family education, document results, and provide instruction and mentoring to staff and students as needed.
  • Assume responsibility for the overall operations of the department as the charge therapist, ensuring compliance with hospital and departmental policies.
Requirements:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; associate's or bachelor's degree in respiratory therapy or a related field preferred.
  • Current certification as a Respiratory Therapist (RRT) or Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) required.
  • Experience in respiratory therapy, preferably in a hospital setting, and knowledge of respiratory therapy equipment and procedures.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with patients, families, and healthcare teams.
