Position Overview
The Lead Subsurface Engineer will engage in a diverse range of underground utility transmission and distribution initiatives, focusing on voltages from 2.4kV to 345kV.

Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with project teams to devise innovative and efficient solutions tailored to budgetary limits, design specifications, and client requirements.
- Direct design teams comprising 2 to 10 engineers and designers, while closely coordinating with construction, procurement, and permitting divisions to successfully implement underground transmission and distribution projects.
- Foster relationships with utility clients and collaborate with various offices to enhance service delivery.
- Assist in business development activities aimed at acquiring new clients across North America.
- Contribute to thought leadership through participation in conferences, marketing efforts, and other internal initiatives.

Technical Duties
- Prepare and develop construction packages for underground projects, which include manhole and equipment installation, conduit and duct bank design, feeder and cable replacement, and new feeder design.
- Conduct routing analysis for the design of low to high voltage distribution and transmission lines utilizing CADD/GIS design and mapping software.
- Assess construction feasibility through route studies, conflict analysis, and cost estimation.
- Execute field inspections, measurements, or calculations for both overhead and underground electric facilities within public and private utility systems.
- Utilize commercially available simulation software and other tools to evaluate various scenarios and provide informed recommendations to clients.

Reporting and Communication
- Generate reports and visualizations to effectively communicate technical results and interpret trends; relay findings and recommendations across all business sectors.
- Ensure that project deliverables meet client satisfaction by closely collaborating with the project team.
- Adhere to internal QA/QC guidelines throughout project execution.
- Conduct QA/QC reviews of studies, reports, and construction design packages.
- Prepare calculations and assist with equipment specifications, including cable pulling calculations, voltage drop assessments, and pole loading evaluations.
- Draft proposals, engineering/project cost estimates, and execution timelines.
- Provide mentorship and guidance to junior staff members.
- Maintain regular communication with clients, subcontractors, and external personnel.
- Undertake additional responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Engineering or a related field from an ABET accredited institution.
- A Master of Science degree in Engineering may substitute for one year of experience.
- A minimum of 7 years of experience in underground distribution and/or transmission civil engineering/design.
- Professional Engineer (PE) License is preferred.
- Comprehensive knowledge of overhead and underground construction techniques and electrical system components.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience in conducting underground field inspections.
- Understanding of power flow dynamics.
- Proficiency with various underground design tools, CADD, and GIS for design purposes.
- Familiarity with AutoCAD Civil 3D is advantageous.
- Knowledge of topographic mapping, surveying, and subsurface utility engineering/utility locating practices.
- Awareness of easements, right-of-way, and permitting processes.
- Familiarity with NESC code for electrical design and construction standards.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
- Ability to develop innovative and efficient solutions to challenges and processes.
- Capacity to manage multiple projects concurrently and prioritize tasks effectively.

Compensation and Benefits
The anticipated compensation range for this role is between $125,000 and $200,000, reflecting various factors such as individual qualifications, prior experience, and work location. The overall compensation package includes a base salary and eligibility for a discretionary year-end incentive bonus program.
