Position Overview: Commercial Package Underwriter
Salary: $75,500.00
We are collaborating with a prominent insurance firm to find a qualified Commercial Package Underwriter. Below is a detailed overview of the role and its requirements.
Essential Qualifications for the Commercial Package Underwriter:
- Possession of a Property and Casualty license or willingness to obtain one.
- Local candidates are preferred, with a requirement to work in the office three days a week, including mandatory attendance on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
- A maximum of three job changes in the past decade.
- Manage a designated territory to cultivate new business opportunities in Commercial Package, Auto, Workers Compensation, and Umbrella lines.
- Utilize consultative marketing and sales techniques to identify and secure new business prospects.
- Oversee the profitability and expansion of an assigned portfolio.
- Build and sustain relationships with producers and clients to understand their needs and offer suitable products.
- Collaborate with the Commercial Sales Team to surpass growth, profitability, and retention objectives.
- Negotiate renewal terms effectively.
- Adhere to all legal and regulatory standards to ensure compliance.
- Assist in the mentoring and development of current underwriting personnel.
- Engage in departmental projects and perform additional duties as assigned.
- Preferred: Property & Casualty Agent/Producer License or willingness to obtain post-hire.
- Bachelor's degree is preferred.
- Experience in Middle Market underwriting.
- Typically requires 5-8 years of experience in underwriting commercial package accounts.
- In-depth knowledge of Commercial Multi-line Package underwriting, with a strong emphasis on Property and General Liability.
- Experience in Umbrella underwriting is essential.
- Familiarity with Facultative Reinsurance.
- Ability to assess coverage requests and independently make risk decisions based on company guidelines.
- Maintain a comprehensive understanding of relevant laws, regulations, and market trends related to Commercial Package.
- May contribute to product development initiatives.
- Experience in developing broker relationships and managing a profitable book of business.
- Self-motivated and service-oriented with a professional demeanor.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, problem-solving, and team-building skills.
- High motivation level with the ability to organize, prioritize, and coordinate tasks efficiently.
- Detail-oriented to ensure the accuracy and quality of underwriting work.
- Strong analytical capabilities.
- Completion of general insurance courses such as CPCU, AU, ARM, or CIC is advantageous.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Hybrid work model: 3 days in the office and 2 days remote.
