Position Overview:
As an Early Head Start/Head Start Assistant Teacher at Clackamas County Children's Commission, you will play a crucial role in fostering early childhood development for infants, toddlers (ages 0-3), and preschoolers (ages 3-5). You will collaborate closely with the classroom Teacher to deliver educational services tailored to low-income and special needs children and their families. Your proactive involvement as a team member is essential for creating a nurturing learning environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the Teacher in conducting assessments and tailoring educational approaches.
  • Assist in the design and execution of daily lesson plans.
  • Establish and maintain a developmentally appropriate classroom atmosphere.
  • Keep accurate records related to classroom activities, including child observations and attendance.
  • Ensure a safe and supervised environment for all children.
  • Implement a Positive Behavior Intervention and Support (PBIS) strategy to guide children's behavior.
  • Welcome children and guide them to their classroom.
  • Prepare instructional materials under the Teacher's guidance.
  • Engage with parents during Open House events at the beginning of the year.
  • Provide childcare during monthly parent meetings.
  • Conduct developmental screenings as needed.

Confidentiality:
Maintain confidentiality regarding enrolled children, families, personnel matters, and program operations.

Training:
Work with your supervisor to set professional goals and participate in training opportunities as required.

Working Conditions:

  • Engage with active infants and toddlers for several class periods each day.
  • Involve extensive standing and walking, with moderate sitting, kneeling, and bending.

Qualifications:
Education:
Child Development Associate (CDA) credential; an Associate's degree or higher in Early Childhood Education or a related field is preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience:
Prior experience in an early childhood education setting, certified childcare center, or similar group care program is essential.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to effectively engage with low-income and special needs children.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to positively interact with families from diverse backgrounds.
  • Capability to use constructive approaches in guiding child behavior.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively as part of a team.
  • Must obtain and maintain a current Oregon Food Handler's Card.
  • Possess and maintain a valid driver's license and have access to an insured vehicle for work purposes.
  • Compliance with the State of Oregon Criminal Background Registry is required.
  • Current First Aid/CPR certification is necessary.
