Seeking Spanish Teacher Assistant for Early Childhood Education

Position Title: Spanish Teacher Assistant
Department: Faculty
Reports To: Head of Early Childhood (Pre-K to Kindergarten)
Status: Non-Exempt (Hourly)
Duration: Academic Year
Schedule: Follows school hours (Monday to Friday, 7:15 AM - 3:30 PM)

Compensation: $23.50 per hour, based on experience

As a faculty member, you are expected to embody and promote these elements throughout your daily responsibilities. The following outlines the essential functions and expectations for the Teacher Assistant role.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Understand and support the mission, philosophy, and educational principles of The International School.
  • Familiarize yourself with the PYP framework for Early Years education.
  • Build trusting relationships with students to foster a positive learning environment.
  • Recognize and respond to the developmental needs of young children.
  • Facilitate student engagement with the curriculum through inquiry-based learning experiences.
  • Assist the lead teacher in guiding individual and small group learning activities.
  • Monitor and document student progress as directed by the teacher.
  • Comply with the regulations set forth by the Oregon Child Care Division.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development to maintain Early Childhood licensure.
  • Exhibit professionalism and appropriate conduct at all times.
  • Be present during designated work hours and participate in school meetings and events as required.
  • Support the teacher with additional tasks as needed.
  • Collaborate effectively with students, faculty, administration, and the community.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in Microsoft Office and familiarity with Google Suite.
  • Participate in staff training and collaborative events.
Working Conditions:
  • This role may require extended hours during peak periods.
  • Ability to navigate the school campus, including stairs and varying terrain.
  • Physical capability to lift up to 40 pounds and manage the demands of working with young children.
  • Occasional travel for off-site events may be necessary.
Qualifications:
  • Minimum of 6 months experience working with young children in an educational setting.
  • Proficient in both written and spoken English.
  • Native-level fluency in Spanish, with the ability to support language instruction.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • 1-2 years of experience in a language immersion educational environment.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field.
  • Certification in the target language.
  • Experience or training in the PYP framework.
