Position Overview

Are you passionate about hands-on projects that support national defense? Serco North America offers an exciting opportunity for a Senior Mechanical Assembler to contribute to a significant initiative supporting the U.S. Navy.

As a Senior Mechanical Assembler, you will join a dynamic team focused on C5ISR system installations. Your expertise and teamwork will play a crucial role in enhancing military defense and ensuring the safety of our service members.

In this position, your responsibilities will include:
  • Leading a small team or working autonomously.
  • Interpreting blueprints, specifications, and diagrams to fabricate and assemble various electromechanical and electronic components.
  • Working in environments that may present challenges such as drafts, noise, and temperature fluctuations, while handling equipment with a focus on safety.
  • Maintaining a strong commitment to safety protocols.
  • Utilizing blueprints and assembly drawings to complete a variety of assembly and subassembly tasks.
  • Applying standard practices and procedures within the mechanical assembly field.
Qualifications

To excel in this role, you should possess:
  • A High School Diploma.
  • The capability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret clearance.
  • Access to shipyards and the ability to pass background checks and drug screenings.
  • OSHA certification eligibility.
  • Forklift certification eligibility.
  • A minimum of 8 years of experience in shipyard operations.
  • 8 years of combined experience in areas such as:
    • Building basic connectors.
    • Managing HAZMAT lockers and safety operations.
    • Understanding QA and contractual requirements.
    • Reading technical drawings at an apprentice level.
    • Using tools for drilling, cutting, and assembly without supervision.
    • Assisting with HAZMAT safety protocols.
    • Bolting and unbolting cableways and equipment.
    • Operating light machinery.
    • Joining and sealing pipe and conduit sections.
    • Holding Firewatch/Cable Installer certifications.
    • Carrying equipment and maintaining cleanliness in workspaces.
    • Removing lagging and paint.
    • Conducting safety Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) and promoting a 'Zero Harm' culture.
  • Experience supervising junior assemblers and laborers.
  • The ability to follow instructions from senior staff.
  • Proficiency in using power tools for both large-scale and intricate mechanical assemblies.
  • Experience in precision assembly of mechanical components.
  • Willingness to obtain respirator qualifications and adhere to PPE requirements.
  • A readiness to work beyond standard hours when necessary.
  • The capability to work in challenging physical conditions, including lifting and carrying weights up to 50 pounds.
  • A willingness to travel to various work sites as needed.
  • The flexibility to relocate if required.
Additional preferred qualifications include:
  • An active DoD secret clearance.
  • OSHA Certification.
