Position Overview
Portland Community College's Advanced & Applied Technologies pathway is seeking an Advanced Instructional Support Specialist to enhance the automotive and diesel service educational programs. This role demands not only technical expertise but also a passion for collaboration with faculty, staff, and students to create a productive learning environment.
Under the guidance of faculty or an instructional administrator, the specialist will prepare various laboratories or classrooms according to established guidelines. Responsibilities include assisting in the design, construction, and/or fabrication of equipment, modules, and experiments that will facilitate effective instructional delivery. The role is performed with a degree of independence, subject to supervisory oversight. The incumbent may also provide direction to student workers and coordinate their activities.
Key Qualifications
The following qualifications, skills, and abilities are essential for success in this role:
- Proven technical knowledge in automotive service repair, supported by recent industry experience.
- Demonstrated expertise in Diesel Service Technology.
- Experience in training, particularly in a mentorship capacity within an automotive or diesel repair setting.
- Proficiency in basic technology, including updating spreadsheets and email communication.
- Commitment to ongoing professional development and staying current in the field.
- Understanding of and dedication to safety practices.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Experience in a culturally diverse work environment.
To qualify, applicants must demonstrate the following minimum requirements:
- A high school diploma or equivalent, along with two years of post-secondary education in a relevant technical discipline.
- Three years of experience in the technical field; relevant experience may substitute for educational requirements on a year-for-year basis.
- Strong written and oral communication skills to assist students effectively.
- Ability to lead and evaluate the performance of others; some positions may require specialized knowledge and certifications.

Salary Expectations
The initial salary range starts at $51,073 to $52,605 annually, with potential for higher placement based on qualifications and experience.
