Legal Aid Chicago is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Supervisory Attorney to lead our Housing Practice Group. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for supervising attorneys and staff, litigating housing law cases, and advocating for tenants' rights.

Responsibilities:
  • Supervise attorneys and staff in the Housing Practice Group, providing guidance on case strategy and editing written work
  • Litigate complex housing law cases, including evictions and tenant-based rental assistance terminations
  • Advocate for tenants' rights, participating in community outreach and representing Legal Aid Chicago on relevant community task forces
  • Collaborate with Legal Aid Chicago staff, students, and volunteers to provide comprehensive legal services
  • Maintain case files and accurate time records, ensuring supervised staff do the same
  • Participate in other activities related to poverty law, including publication, legislative and administrative advocacy, media relations, and fundraising
Requirements:
  • J.D. degree and licensure to practice in the state of Illinois or ability to waive into the Illinois bar
  • At least six years of demonstrated experience, including experience supervising legal work and litigating housing law cases
  • Complex litigation experience, strong written and oral skills, and ability to work in an interdisciplinary manner
  • Enthusiasm for working in a fast-paced practice and training and mentoring less experienced attorneys and advocacy staff
