Job Overview

Syndeo Staffing is seeking a qualified individual for the role of Utility Process Control Specialist within the Public Works and Utilities Department. This position is essential for ensuring the effective management of water treatment processes and requires flexibility to work 2nd or 3rd shifts, with initial training provided on the 1st shift.

Certification Requirement: A Kansas Class IV Water Operator Certification (or an equivalent certification from another state) is mandatory for this role.

Key Responsibilities

The Utility Process Control Specialist will be responsible for:

  • Operating and overseeing production, pumping, and distribution systems from a centralized control facility, utilizing data from the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system and Geographic Information System (GIS).
  • Monitoring and adjusting flows and pressures across all systems, making independent decisions to balance flows to maintain required water storage levels.
  • Tracking water levels in reservoirs and towers, implementing necessary pump adjustments.
  • Collecting water samples and conducting basic chemical analyses to inform process adjustments.
  • Managing chemical feed systems, determining dosage requirements based on varying conditions, and adjusting feed rates to uphold water quality standards.
  • Troubleshooting treatment issues related to pH levels, solids concentration, mixing intensity, and chemical dosages.
  • Forecasting daily water consumption and production needs based on weather conditions.
  • Maintaining operational efficiency of the water treatment facility, including routine equipment maintenance.
  • Documenting plant performance metrics in log sheets or digital databases.
Qualifications

To be successful in this role, candidates must possess:

  • A high school diploma.
  • A valid Kansas Class IV Water Supply System Operator certification or equivalent certification from another state (large water utility/surface water treatment), with completion of the reciprocal process within the first six months of employment.
  • The ability to work legally in the United States without sponsorship.
Physical Requirements

Physical capabilities required for this position include:

  • Ability to walk, climb stairs, bend, twist, and reach as necessary, with the capacity to lift and carry up to 40 pounds.
  • Ability to exert pressure to operate valves and hydrants.
  • Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Ability to tolerate exposure to environmental factors associated with water treatment operations.
Work Environment

Employees are expected to wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) including long pants and steel-toed boots. The City will provide hard hats, safety glasses, and earplugs as necessary.

Employment offers are contingent upon successful completion of a pre-employment physical, which includes drug screening and a criminal background check.
