About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Water Resources Engineer to join our team at WSP. As a key member of our environmental consulting team, you will play a critical role in helping our clients navigate complex environmental issues and develop sustainable solutions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide technical assistance and guidance for due diligence, investigation, remediation, impact assessment, and environmental permitting projects.
  • Assist with the analysis, development, and design of processes and infrastructure relating to water supply, stormwater facilities, irrigation facilities, culverts, hydrology, open channel hydraulics, bridge hydraulics, floodplain modeling/mapping, hydrologic/hydraulic modeling, river/stream/habitat restoration and fish passage, pollution control and treatment, and preserving the quality of the environment by averting the contamination and degradation of water resources.
  • Generate accurate and concise reports and documentation regarding field conditions, and assessing and advising on the short- and long-term risks to ecological and human health.
  • Ensure that responsibilities are delivered and adhered to with a level of quality that meets or exceeds acceptable industry standards.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering, with a focus in Water Resources or closely related discipline.
  • 3 to 5 years of relevant post-education experience in water resources engineering.
  • Engineer in Training Certification.
  • Knowledge of water resource engineering principles, practices, process, design/build, and the application to environmental permitting and project work-related issues.
  • Knowledge of Stormwater Management, Drainage, Erosion and Sediment Control, Hydrology & Hydraulics Design, Watershed Studies, Floodplain Delineation, etc.
  • Ability to coordinate with agency regulators and understand requirements.
  • Knowledge with the concepts of reducing and eliminating the use or generation of hazardous substances, processes, or products, and mitigation programs.
  • Knowledge of the techniques used in identifying, measuring, sampling and studying environmental control.
  • Knowledge of relevant environmental laws, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements.
  • Basic experience with preparing permit applications for oversight agencies to address the full range of environmental issues and conditions associated with water resources projects.
  • Capable interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience.
  • Effective self-leadership with attention to detail, results orientation, and managing multiple priorities in a dynamic work environment.
  • Ability to learn new techniques, perform multiple tasks simultaneously, follow instruction, work independently, and comply with company policies.
  • Moderate proficiency with technical writing, office automation, software, technology, math principles, predictive models, spreadsheets, and tools.
  • Familiarity with surface water analysis, hydrologic methodologies/models (TR-55, HEC-HMS, etc.), hydraulic models (HEC-RAS, HEC-RAS-2D, HEC-GeoRAS, SRH-2D, etc), and with ESRI ArcGIS software.
  • Experience with coordinating technical matters with public and private groups.
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills required to apply technical knowledge to reach conclusions from testing results, data collation, statistical analysis and arriving at the most effective, economical, and logical solution.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP's health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
  • Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
  • Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's Degree in Engineering.
  • Essential Professional Licensure/Certification.
  • 40-Hour OSHA Health & Safety Training (HAZWOPER) (29 CFR).
  • Basic First Aid and Adult CPR training.
