Role Summary

We are seeking a Middle School Math Teacher who will play a pivotal role in ensuring that all students excel both academically and socially within their discipline. The responsibilities of the Math Teacher include:

Student Success

  • Designing purposeful lesson plans that provide students with opportunities to construct meaning and deepen their understanding of mathematical concepts.
  • Employing developmentally appropriate and challenging curricula and instructional materials that align with Bronx Arts' benchmarks and New York State standards.
  • Introducing new ideas and concepts through diverse strategies, inspiring students to explore, express, and develop their own insights.
  • Administering, collecting, and analyzing qualitative and quantitative data from various assessments to monitor student progress.
  • Regularly reflecting on assessment data, both independently and collaboratively, to inform instructional practices and enhance student achievement.
  • Collaborating with special education teachers to create and implement individualized instructional plans for students with unique needs, ensuring their academic success and full inclusion in the Bronx Arts community.
  • Working alongside arts educators to design and co-teach interdisciplinary lessons that integrate the arts into other subject areas, promoting both artistic engagement and academic success.
  • Building strong relationships with students' families through consistent communication regarding their children's progress and ways to support their learning.
  • Researching, developing, and sharing educational resources and materials with colleagues.

School Environment

  • Leading, in partnership with the school's leadership team, the promotion and implementation of the Bronx Arts Middle School Method and the Positive Behavior Intervention System (PBIS), which aims to establish a school culture that aligns with the institution's mission and values.
  • Creating a classroom community that upholds the school's high social expectations for students as defined by Bronx Arts' operating principles.
  • Participating in ongoing efforts to reinforce the school's mission and goals throughout the Bronx Arts community.
  • Collaborating with fellow arts specialists and staff on the design and execution of school-wide performances, exhibitions, and family events that celebrate the arts.

  • Actively seeking to enhance personal teaching practices to acquire the skills and knowledge necessary for exemplary instruction and to increase overall effectiveness within the organization.

Qualifications

  • A dedicated educator who maintains high behavioral and academic expectations for all students.
  • A results-oriented professional with experience in utilizing data analysis and assessments to inform instructional decisions and accountability.
  • A graduate of an accredited Bachelor's degree program (required); a Master's Degree is preferred.
  • A minimum of three years of teaching experience in the relevant discipline.
  • Possession of NYS teaching certification or pending certification, meeting NYS eligibility requirements.

Compensation

Compensation packages are competitive and commensurate with experience. Benefits include health, dental, and vision insurance, paid time off, short and long-term disability, life insurance, and a commuter benefit program. Optional benefits include a 403b retirement plan, dependent care FSA, and medical flexible spending account.
