PATH is on the lookout for dedicated individuals who are passionate about facilitating positive change in the lives of others to join our Outreach Services Team as a Community Engagement Specialist.

Founded in 1984, PATH (People Assisting The Homeless) has been at the forefront of innovative and effective strategies to support individuals facing homelessness. Our services span across California, connecting clients to a comprehensive range of support including homelessness prevention, outreach, employment assistance, case management, and housing solutions.
ROLE SUMMARY
The Community Engagement Specialist is a position rooted in lived experience, designed to connect, motivate, and foster meaningful dialogues with clients, helping them to identify, create, and achieve their personal goals. Working within a multidisciplinary team, the Specialist cultivates supportive relationships with clients, assisting them in their transition to stable housing, accessing essential services, and connecting with community resources.
Key Responsibilities:
- Utilize personal experiences as a tool for engagement, offering ongoing support and resource referrals tailored to housing-related objectives.
- Accompany clients to appointments, housing searches, and other activities outlined in their individualized service plans.
- Collaborate with clients and team members to develop a client-centered Individualized Service Plan (ISP) that addresses barriers to stable housing and outlines clear objectives and goals.
- Provide mobile, field-based services to meet the diverse needs of clients.
- Assist with advocacy and community engagement tasks as needed.
- Demonstrate physical capability to drive, stretch, reach, lift, and navigate various environments.
- Participate actively in team meetings and discussions.
- Respond effectively to critical situations, employing de-escalation techniques to support clients facing mental health or substance use challenges.
QUALIFICATIONS
We seek candidates who possess:
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail, capable of interpreting data and identifying trends to inform decision-making.
- Ability to collaborate effectively, fostering positive relationships with colleagues and stakeholders.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, to engage and inform individuals and groups.
- Creativity and initiative, demonstrating a proactive approach to work and problem-solving.
- Critical thinking abilities to analyze situations and make sound decisions.
- Commitment to ethical standards and maintaining professional boundaries.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE
- At least one year of experience supporting individuals with behavioral health challenges.
- Peer Support Certification.
- Lived experience with recovery from homelessness, mental health, or substance use challenges that enhances service delivery.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
All levels of education and experience are welcomed.
MANDATORY CRITERIA
All candidates must:
- Provide employment eligibility verification.
- Obtain CPR/First Aid training.
- Successfully complete a Tuberculosis Test, Background Screening, and Drug Test as a condition of hire.
DRIVING REQUIREMENTS
Driving is a crucial aspect of this role. Candidates must:
- Have reliable transportation.
- Possess a valid driver's license.
- Provide proof of insurance and ownership for personal vehicles used for work.
- Meet the qualifications for PATH's insurance coverage.
