Youth Engagement Specialist

Covenant House California is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Youth Engagement Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our multidisciplinary team, you will play a vital role in creating a safe and inclusive environment for youth experiencing homelessness and trafficking.
Job Summary:The Youth Engagement Specialist will provide essential supervision and support to youth in our housing programs, ensuring their physical and emotional well-being. This role requires strong communication and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to work effectively with a diverse group of individuals.
Key Responsibilities:- Provide supervision and support to youth in our housing programs, including triage of door and phones, assessing safety, and preventing and managing crises.
- Facilitate day-to-day operations and duties, adhering to our Mission Statement, Five Principles, Code of Conduct, and policies and procedures.
- Build rapport with youth and act as a positive role model and safe adult, maintaining and facilitating healthy boundaries.
- Direct supervision of youth in the program, on-site, on outings in the community, and during meetings and appointments.
- Develop knowledge of current community resources available to clients and teach basic life skills such as personal hygiene, household cleaning, and interpersonal interactions.
- Lead groups and workshops on skill building as assigned and maintain and engage in consistent communication with the multidisciplinary team.
- High School Diploma or Bachelor's Degree in Human Services or related field preferred.
- Minimum of 1-2 years' experience working with youth ages 18-24.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills and strong organizational skills.
- Computer literacy (Word, Outlook, Excel, etc.) and ability to work with other staff members, clients, vendors, and the public.
- Valid CA driver's license, good driving record, and reliable transportation.
General business/office environment. Must be able to lift up to 40 lbs. on occasion, bend, sit, and stand for prolonged periods of time. Some weekend/holiday work may be required.
