Job Title: Youth Engagement Specialist

Covenant House California is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Youth Engagement Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our multidisciplinary team, you will play a vital role in creating a safe and inclusive environment for youth experiencing homelessness and trafficking.

Job Summary:

The Youth Engagement Specialist will provide essential supervision and support to youth in our housing programs, ensuring their physical and emotional well-being. This role requires strong communication and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to work effectively with a diverse group of individuals.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Provide supervision and support to youth in our housing programs, including triage of door and phones, assessing safety, and preventing and managing crises.
  2. Facilitate day-to-day operations and duties, adhering to our Mission Statement, Five Principles, Code of Conduct, and policies and procedures.
  3. Build rapport with youth and act as a positive role model and safe adult, maintaining and facilitating healthy boundaries.
  4. Direct supervision of youth in the program, on-site, on outings in the community, and during meetings and appointments.
  5. Develop knowledge of current community resources available to clients and teach basic life skills such as personal hygiene, household cleaning, and interpersonal interactions.
  6. Lead groups and workshops on skill building as assigned and maintain and engage in consistent communication with the multidisciplinary team.
Requirements:
  • High School Diploma or Bachelor's Degree in Human Services or related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 1-2 years' experience working with youth ages 18-24.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and strong organizational skills.
  • Computer literacy (Word, Outlook, Excel, etc.) and ability to work with other staff members, clients, vendors, and the public.
  • Valid CA driver's license, good driving record, and reliable transportation.
Working Conditions:

General business/office environment. Must be able to lift up to 40 lbs. on occasion, bend, sit, and stand for prolonged periods of time. Some weekend/holiday work may be required.
