Objective: Develop, execute, and uphold organizational protocols and practices to guarantee adherence to Federal and State regulatory standards, including the Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA), Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), and Department of Transportation (DOT).

Foster a culture of safety consciousness across the organization.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee all facets of the Company’s automobile and truck fleet initiatives.
  • Ensure that policies, procedures, and associated training programs are established and align with all Federal and State Safety and Health regulations.
  • Design company-specific general safety protocols to be adhered to by all staff; collaborate with various departments on the design and utilization of equipment, warehouse facilities, fire prevention, and fleet initiatives.
  • Conduct inspections of work environments to identify existing or potential accident and health risks; recommend corrective or preventive actions as necessary.
  • Manage a fleet of 2,500 vehicles to ensure a safe, efficient, and cost-effective operational fleet. Negotiate contracts and pricing with vehicle manufacturers. Establish and maintain relationships with fleet management companies to ensure effective programs for vehicle maintenance, fuel management, licensing, registration, accident management, and vehicle disposal.
  • Perform operational fleet assessments; provide data and reports on fleet replacement cycles and maintenance strategies for district, branch, and corporate personnel.
  • Oversee relationships with third-party vendors for Department of Transportation (DOT) driver compliance, including driver hiring standards, qualification files, and mandated drug and alcohol testing.
  • Manage vehicle-related obligations such as International Fuel Tax Agreement (IFTA) fuel tax, vehicle inspections, and FMCSA Safety Measurement System (SMS) compliance.
  • Participate in the investigation of accidents and injuries, assisting in the preparation of materials and evidence for hearings, legal proceedings, and insurance inquiries; compile and submit required OSHA reports (OSHA 300 logs); stay updated on health and safety regulations.
  • Conduct studies and analyses of work-related accident causes and health hazards for management and external agencies.
  • Act as a resource for District Safety Committees, providing educational content, guidance, and analysis to support local efforts in enhancing awareness and compliance.
  • Develop, oversee, and coordinate training programs or materials to enhance proficiency in safe practices and promote safety awareness.
  • Integrate safety initiatives with Workers' Compensation cost reduction strategies.
  • Maintain a comprehensive understanding of DOT Hazardous Materials Regulations for ground and air shipments.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in related fields focused on establishing, implementing, and assessing corporate safety programs.
  • High school diploma or GED required; a four-year degree is preferred.
  • Certifications in safety and/or fleet management are advantageous.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge: Understanding of building management functions, including equipment and processes; familiarity with current health and safety regulations.
  • Skills: Proficient verbal and written communication; strong organizational and time-management capabilities; research and analytical skills; supervisory and leadership abilities; computer proficiency.
  • Abilities: Capacity to communicate health and safety programs effectively across all organizational levels; ability to interact proficiently with government health and safety regulatory personnel; capability to develop, implement, and assess corporate safety programs; skill in producing and submitting accurate reports to regulators promptly; ability to keep corporate management informed of health and safety risks.

Working Conditions: Office environment with extensive travel required. Investigate potentially unhealthy, hazardous, or unsafe working conditions. Perform physical tasks typically associated with office functions as necessary.
