Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform a comprehensive range of repair and maintenance tasks on automotive and construction machinery, as well as power take-off driven equipment.

    • Providing service at garage gasoline stations as required and making service calls.
Special Responsibilities:
  • Ensure proper care and utilization of tools, materials, and shop equipment.
  • Respond promptly to service calls, restoring equipment to operational status efficiently.
  • Work with precision during close adjustments.
  • Conduct thorough inspections and adjustments to safeguard operators and equipment.
  • Adhere to safe working practices at all times.
Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Completion of an approved automotive maintenance educational program is preferred, along with two years of experience in a repair technician role.
  • Five years of satisfactory experience in an automotive maintenance facility may substitute for formal education.
  • Ability to interact effectively with others, work independently for extended periods, and possess average physical strength and endurance.
  • Competent operation of equipment and ability to qualify for a chauffeur's license.
  • Successful completion of all testing requirements related to this position.
  • Must obtain and maintain a valid class (A) C.D.L. license with Tanker endorsement.
  • Pass the Construction Skilled Trades (CAST) aptitude test and written automotive mechanic examination.
Compensation Structure:

Local 1439 Fleet Technician Journeyman Pay Scale:

  • Step (1) - Pass Fleet Services Mechanic Skills Test: $42.12
  • Step Months - Aerial Inspection Test: $43.93
  • Step Months - 3 ASE Tests: $46.46
  • Step Months - 3 ASE Tests: $48.05
  • Step Months - 2 ASE Tests: $51.07

Additional shift work premium of $1.45 per hour for those working the PM or OWL shift. Technicians can progress through these steps and achieve Step 5 pay within one year by passing the Fluid Power Certification and obtaining ASE Master Medium/Heavy Truck Certification status.

Vacation Benefits:
  • 0 to 1 year: prorated based on start date
  • 1 to 6 years of service: 2 weeks of vacation
  • 6 to 15 years of service: 3 weeks of vacation
  • 15 to 20 years of service: 4 weeks of vacation
  • 20 to 30 years of service: 5 weeks of vacation
  • 30 or more years of service: 6 weeks of vacation
