Position Overview

The Financial Controller will serve as a key member of the management team at Mark III Construction. This role is essential for overseeing the financial operations related to construction projects, real estate assets, and the overall financial health of the organization. The Financial Controller will establish and implement financial controls, policies, and procedures to ensure the company's fiscal integrity. Additionally, this position may involve supervising a small team of 1 to 4 individuals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the construction accountant to ensure the timely and precise completion of monthly financial reports, analyze results, and uphold consistent accounting practices.
  • Conduct financial analysis for project closures, providing insightful commentary.
  • Facilitate the preparation of the annual budget.
  • Examine the overhead cost structure, making necessary adjustments, and ensure accurate accounting of these expenses across the organization.
  • Perform cost-benefit analyses as required to support and recommend capital investments.
  • Develop and maintain job costing accounts and procedures that meet management's data needs and ensure timely job cost reporting.
  • Oversee the Accounts Payable process, ensuring that the Purchase Order system and other payment controls are effective and that payments are processed accurately and on time.
  • Manage Accounts Receivable to guarantee timely and accurate billing, efficient processing of lien releases, and effective collection efforts.
  • Address all information technology concerns with the help of contractors, ensuring a secure, user-friendly, reliable, and compliant IT system that meets the needs of both management and staff.
  • Prepare and analyze financial data as requested by management.
  • Generate ad hoc reports as needed.
  • Identify financial issues, proactively analyze data, and implement or recommend solutions.
  • Establish and maintain robust internal financial controls.
  • Regularly meet with and maintain strong relationships with accounting personnel within the company.
  • Ensure compliance with all Federal and State payroll reporting requirements, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
  • Organize and manage loans, lines of credit, and lender transactions.
  • Control and maintain data related to tools, equipment, and vehicle costs, making recommendations for process improvements as necessary.
  • Prepare and compile all documentation for tax returns, liaising with external tax preparers, and reviewing tax returns prior to submission.
  • Gather and prepare all necessary documentation for reviewed financial statements, coordinating with external preparers and approving the statements.
  • Prepare and provide all internal financial records for auditors and coordinate with them as needed.

Qualifications

  • CPA designation is preferred.
  • A minimum of 10 years of relevant experience, with some background in the construction industry preferred.
  • Experience in managing and developing team members.
  • A Bachelor's degree in Accounting is required.
  • Strong understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Familiarity with construction accounting software; knowledge of Timberline is a significant advantage.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to create and present clear and concise management reports.

Salary Range: $120,000 to $140,000, depending on experience.
