Job Overview

As a Café Service Associate, you will play a vital role in delivering exceptional dining experiences by preparing food orders and serving meals or beverages to guests, adhering to all relevant age regulations. You will also coordinate kitchen operations through the following responsibilities:

Key Responsibilities:

  • Present the menu, respond to inquiries, and take orders for food and beverages, utilizing effective selling techniques.
  • Monitor assigned tables to ensure all guests receive timely service.
  • Anticipate guest needs, respond promptly, and maintain positive relations with all patrons.
  • Possess comprehensive knowledge of hotel services, features, and local attractions to accurately address guest inquiries.
  • Calculate bills and process payments, ensuring accurate tracking of sales receipts.
  • Report tips accurately for tax purposes.
  • Clear and clean tables, resetting them for the next guests.
  • Maintain cleanliness in the kitchen and service areas, restocking supplies at the end of each shift.
  • Conduct weekly inventory of food, supplies, and equipment, requesting additional items as necessary.
  • Inspect foodstuffs and supplies upon receipt to ensure they meet quality and quantity standards.
  • Demonstrate complete knowledge of table layouts, seating arrangements, operational hours, and Bistro dress code.
  • Have thorough knowledge of all beverage options, including liquor brands, beers, and non-alcoholic selections, as well as appropriate glassware and garnishes.
  • Understand the characteristics and descriptions of wines available by the glass and those featured on the wine list.
  • Be well-versed in all menu items, including pricing, preparation methods, key ingredients, and quality standards.
  • Prepare and serve food courses and beverages to guests.
  • Set tables according to the event type and service standards.
  • Address questions regarding menu selections.
  • Communicate effectively with the kitchen about menu inquiries, wait times, re-cook orders, and product availability.
  • Relay any special meal requirements, allergies, or dietary needs to the kitchen staff.
  • Record transactions in the MICROS system at the time of order placement.
  • Check in with guests to ensure satisfaction with their meals and beverages.
  • Maintain cleanliness of work areas, including dishes and utensils, throughout the day.
  • Complete closing duties, such as restocking items, turning off lights, and preparing necessary supplies for the next shift.
  • Present accurate checks to guests and process payments efficiently.
  • Adhere to all company policies regarding safety and security, reporting any incidents or unsafe conditions to management.
  • Ensure a professional appearance and uniform at all times.
  • Maintain confidentiality of proprietary information and protect company assets.
  • Welcome and acknowledge all guests according to company standards, addressing their service needs and showing appreciation.
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with others.
  • Foster positive working relationships with colleagues, supporting team goals and addressing concerns appropriately.
  • Ensure compliance with quality expectations and standards.
  • Be prepared to stand, sit, or walk for extended periods and handle objects weighing between 20-25 pounds without assistance.
  • Perform additional reasonable duties as assigned by supervisors.
  • Count cash at the beginning and end of shifts, complete cashier reports, resolve discrepancies, and secure cash.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned.
  • Maintain a safe work environment for colleagues and a secure hotel for guests.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • High school diploma or GED; or one to three months of related experience and/or training; or a combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Effective verbal communication skills with guests and co-workers.
  • Ability to respond positively to guest requests and manage complaints with empathy and proactive solutions.
  • Experience handling cash and credit transactions.
  • Ability to comprehend guest requests and various written materials.
  • Basic knowledge of food and beverage preparation, service standards, and guest relations.
  • Familiarity with the service of alcoholic beverages.
  • Understanding of appropriate table settings and service ware.
  • Ability to follow written product labeling instructions for safe application of products.
  • Ability to remember and promote menu items.
  • Food handling certification.
  • Basic mathematical skills.
  • Ability to multitask effectively.
  • Thorough knowledge of state liquor regulations, particularly those regarding service to minors and intoxicated individuals.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to maintain focus under pressure.
  • Ability to suggestively sell menu items and beverages.
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Professional demeanor, demonstrating courtesy and respect to guests and colleagues.
