Job Title: Environmental Program Manager I

The Environmental Health Hazard Assessment Office is seeking a highly skilled Environmental Program Manager I to join our team. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for providing specialized environmental justice expertise and managing critical elements of the environmental justice and tribal affairs program.

Job Summary:

The Environmental Program Manager I (Supervisory) serves as a critical advisor to the Assistant Secretary and is a leading expert on environmental justice and tribal issues for CalEPA. Under general direction, you will provide specialized environmental justice expertise and manage at the general direction of the CalEPA Assistant Secretary or designee critical elements of the environmental justice and tribal affairs program.

Responsibilities:
  • Provide specialized environmental justice expertise and manage critical elements of the environmental justice and tribal affairs program.
  • Serve as a critical advisor to the Assistant Secretary and be a leading expert on environmental justice and tribal issues for CalEPA.
  • Work with California Native American Tribes, including the implementation of CalEPA's Tribal Policy, and the implementation of similar policies and protocols.
  • Develop and implement strategies to improve communication and working relationships with California Native American Tribes.
  • Collaborate with other governmental entities to complete projects and work assignments.
Requirements:

To be successful in this role, you will need to have a strong background in environmental justice and tribal affairs, as well as excellent communication and project management skills. You will also need to be able to work effectively in a team environment and be able to adapt to changing priorities and deadlines.

Working Conditions:

The Environmental Health Hazard Assessment Office has a hybrid work environment that includes work in an office setting in a high-rise building (25th floor) and telework at home. You will be required to work extended periods of reading and writing, frequently using computer workstations, and data and word processing software. Occasional day trips and overnight travel may be required to attend project/site meetings, public hearings, and/or to work with other governmental entities to complete projects and work assignments.
