Job Summary

New York University is seeking an adjunct faculty member to teach a dynamic and well-recognized course that successfully delivers core business principles in all degree programs. The course, OCSC, is taught in the second year of a four-year undergraduate social impact core curriculum that integrates the sustainability of business with effective communication strategy and critical thinking.

Course Description

OCSC examines how organizations communicate with varied internal and external stakeholders, focusing on the interconnections between business and society. Students analyze and map the social and business environment of organizations, understand effective business communication strategy, and align communication strategy to business strategy as a mutually beneficial relationship with multiple stakeholders.

Course Goals

The course challenges students to identify effective and ineffective communication strategy with real-time company examples. Students learn how communication strategy aligned with business strategy can be managed to organizational success. The course emphasizes bridging theoretical fundamentals and action learning by applying communication strategy to:

  • Oral and written business assignments
  • Visual communication
  • Team communication

Teaching and Learning Expectations

This is a highly interactive course with multiple activities designed to engage students through discussion, debate, and practical applications taken from historical cases and current business challenges sourced from global news. The instructor will combine lectures (based on common readings) with classroom discussions and activities, including guest speakers to facilitate maximum participation of all students.

Teaching Information

Instructors are encouraged to use a variety of pedagogical techniques, including a combination of lecture and discussion-based class sessions, student activities, flipped classroom environments, and live case studies. Instructors should be prepared to teach in-person and simultaneously to be prepared for remote instruction.
