Position Overview:

The Law Enforcement Officer is responsible for safeguarding the community's safety, property, and welfare by upholding local, state, and federal regulations.

Role Responsibilities:

This position requires the application of critical judgment and initiative in daily operations. The officer will utilize their technical and legal knowledge to address complex situations, often collaborating with the public, fellow officers, and government officials.

Key Duties:
  • Conduct regular patrols to deter criminal activity and assist citizens; report any suspicious behavior or incidents.
  • Investigate potential criminal activities; secure scenes, gather evidence, and interview witnesses or suspects.
  • Prepare legal cases for court proceedings and testify as needed.
  • Respond to accidents, provide first aid, and assess the circumstances to prevent future incidents.
  • Identify and report safety hazards within the community.
  • Manage traffic flow in accordance with regulations; issue citations for violations and oversee vehicle impoundment when necessary.
  • Document response calls accurately and promptly.
  • Assist with animal control issues as per city ordinances.
  • Offer guidance and support to the public in various situations, including access to locked vehicles and emergency assistance.
  • Support various police functions, including collaboration with School Resource Officers.
  • Oversee the safety and security of property in custody and manage interactions with individuals in holding facilities.
  • May mentor and supervise less experienced officers.
  • Ensure patrol vehicles are maintained in safe and operational condition.
  • Conduct inspections aimed at crime prevention in residential and commercial areas.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Knowledge and Skills Required:
  • Comprehensive understanding of local ordinances and relevant laws.
  • Ability to interpret and follow detailed procedures and instructions.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to maintain effective relationships with various stakeholders.
  • Capacity to remain composed and make informed decisions in high-pressure situations.
  • Proficient in operating patrol vehicles and related equipment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with firearms and other law enforcement tools.
  • Commitment to ongoing training and professional development.
Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent; an Associate's degree in Criminal Justice is preferred.
  • Completion of an accredited Basic Peace Officers Certification Academy.
  • Valid Peace Officer Certification from the appropriate regulatory body.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license.
Physical and Environmental Requirements:
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Physical stamina for activities such as running, lifting, and other law enforcement duties.
  • Capability to work in varying environmental conditions, including extreme temperatures.
  • Willingness to work irregular hours, including weekends and holidays, as required.
