Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Emergency Medical Technician - Paramedic to join our team at Stony Brook Medicine. As a key member of our Emergency Medical Services team, you will be responsible for providing advanced life support care to patients in emergency situations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide patient assessment, stabilization, and transportation to medical facilities by ground or air.
  • Administer medications, perform endotracheal intubations, and use pneumatic shock garments as needed.
  • Monitor vital signs, perform EKGs, and defibrillate patients as required.
  • Collaborate with out-of-hospital medical providers to relay medical orders and maintain accurate records.
  • Operate ambulances, maintain equipment, and ensure medical supplies are readily available.
  • Provide direct patient care aboard Suffolk County Police Medevac Helicopter.
  • Precept students in the clinical setting and orient new team members.
  • Provide administrative support to the Emergency Services Coordinator and may supervise Emergency Medical Technicians.
Requirements
  • New York State Health Department certification as an Emergency Medical Technician- Paramedic.
  • Appropriate New York State driver's license for the type of vehicle to be operated.
  • Preferred certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS), Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS), Basic Trauma Life Support (BTLS), Pre Hospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP), Neonatal Advanced Life Support (NALS), National Registry.

Prior to start date, the selected candidate must meet the following requirements: successfully complete pre-employment physical examination and obtain medical clearance from Stony Brook Medicine's Employee Health Services, complete electronic reference check with a minimum of three (3) professional references, successfully complete a 5-panel drug screen, and successfully complete a Background Check investigation. Provide a copy of any required New York State license(s)/certificate(s). Failure to comply with any of the above requirements could result in a delayed start date and/or revocation of the employment offer.
