Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Transportation Engineer to join our Raleigh office. As part of our Transportation Group, this role will provide engineering design support on a variety of projects, including roadway, municipal, port, and rail design. The ideal candidate will have experience working on NCDOT projects and be familiar with a variety of civil engineering projects related to transportation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform engineering design tasks for roadway, municipal, rail, and port projects from preliminary to final design
  • Develop specifications, cost estimates, and prepare final bid packages
  • Begin to foster relationships with regulatory agencies, local government, NCDOT, and state clients, as well as private clients
  • Provide engineering design services for traditional design and design-build highway projects
  • Mentor and assist junior engineers in developing final design plans, including implementation and knowledge of cross sections, traffic control, drainage, and signing and pavement markings plans
  • Assist in coordinating design activities and meetings between design staff, subcontractors, and client managers
  • Participate in project decisions regarding technical approaches, cost, and scheduling performance
  • Identify schedule and cost variances and develop and implement recommendations for corrective actions
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil or Transportation-related engineering; required
  • 3 to 5 years of experience designing transportation/roadway engineering projects; required
  • Professional Engineer licensure or ability to obtain within 6 months of start date; required
  • Software experience required: Microstation/Geopak, OpenRoads Designer, Microsoft Office Suite, Bluebeam Revu, and/or Adobe Acrobat
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal, written, and presentation); required
  • Availability and willingness to travel
Working Conditions

The majority of work is office-based, with some site visits required. Some site visits may necessitate navigating unpaved or natural terrain while carrying equipment.
